Three Spring Car Care Tips for Your Chevy

When you notice that flowers are blooming, the grass is getting greener, and it’s warmer outside—spring is finally here! After a long winter, you’re excited to get out and enjoy the warmth on your skin. You’re also ready to use your sunroof and go cruising in your Chevy. With that in mind, you know it’s time for some spring maintenance. Here are four car care tips to get you ready.  

Clean your car

Utah’s salty and muddy roads in the winter can make your Chevy look filthy. When winter is over, it’s important to get rid of all that salt and mud and give your vehicle a makeover. Make sure to give your vehicle a good car wash, focusing on areas on the bottom. Salt can damage your paint and other parts of your car over time. Don’t forget to clean the inside as well. Clean your mats and wipe down all areas that you can. You’ll definitely feel refreshed after it’s all cleaned.

Tire Check

Tires are one of the most important safety components on your vehicle. It’s especially important to take care of them because you don’t want to run into a problem on the road and get into an accident. Just be aware and make sure you’re checking your tire pressure regularly, checking the tread for uneven wear, and rotating your tires when needed. After the cold winter, checking your tires is a must-do!  

Alignment Check

How many of us try to avoid potholes but end up driving in them? We’ve all been there and a lot of the time this affects our alignment. If you notice your vehicle is pulling to the left or right or if your steering wheel isn’t straight when you’re driving straight, it might be time for an alignment. If you put this off, your tires will start to wear unevenly and eventually, you’ll have to spend even more money for new tires.

Your vehicle is a big investment and something you use every day. You’ll want to take care of it the best you can and these car tips above are a great place to start. People may not agree on much, but one thing we can almost all agree on is the delicious taste of Mexican food. Larry H. • Parts Manager Grant Martin’s Tip: “The steak and eggs burrito can turn any day into a good day.”
• Lone Star Taqueria: Their accolades are many and for all the right reasons. Lone Star’s fish tacos are quite possibly the best in Utah.
• Sales Professional Jordan Dwyer’s Tip: “Go after a long day of skiing or snowboarding and make sure to get a side of chips.”
• Red Iguana: This place is the end-all of Mexican food in Salt Lake. The Puntas de Filete a la Norteña are the best-seller on their menu.
• Sales Professional Chris Heacker’s Tip: “The line may wrap around the entire building, but don’t let this be intimidating for you. Waiting for the food here is something no one regrets.”
• Rio Grande Café: What makes this joint so great is its location inside the historic railroad station. Their menu is reasonably priced and they serve up generous portions (perfect for leftovers).
• Finance Assistant Mellissa Hansen’s Tip: “Rio Grande has an awesome menu, I always love bringing change so I can play songs on the jukebox.”

We think this list can cure your hunger by giving you a little slice of Mexico without going south of the border. Keeping Your Teen Driver Safe When You're Not in the Passenger Seat

Distracted, over-confident, and reckless. Teens often make for horrible drivers. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S. Over six die this way every single day and over 600 suffer car-crash-related injuries each day.

Attempting to combat these startling statistics has often been done using scare tactics. Graphic staged performances of the consequences of drinking and driving are often portrayed in parking lots of high schools before prom. Driver’s Ed courses usually feature victims of drunk or distracted driving. That’s why Chevy is trying a new, more proactive approach to better combat the side-effects of teens on the road called Teen Driver.

Chevy first introduced the technology in the 2016 Malibu and now it’s available across most of their 2018 lineup. The fully integrated system does not miss a beat. It begins right when the engine is started by not allowing the stereo to be turned on until seatbelts are fastened. When Teen Driver technology is turned on, Stability Control, Traction Control, Forward Collision Braking, and Front Pedestrian Braking are all automatically enabled.

A pin code gives parents the ability to customize the stereo volume limit and speed to best fit their family’s needs. Teen Driver tracks the habits of the person behind the wheel. It puts together a “report card” which details the distance driven, the maximum speed reached, the number of times the vehicle went over the pre-approved speed limit, tailgating alerts, and if the Forward Collision Avoidance Braking was activated.

The data from the report card is only housed inside the vehicle and does not send the data to any sort of cloud. This is done to negate the potential of the vehicle being hacked. In light of the potential of an emergency situation, Chevy did not include the option of a speed limit cap under 85mph.

Teen Driver works to keep parents at ease and to ultimately encourage young drivers to develop safer driving habits. Alerts recorded in the report card are displayed to your teen in real-time using audible alerts. The goal is to make them aware of the bad habit so they can begin to correct it immediately. My clients have told me it gives them peace of mind. One father said his daughter competes with herself to see if she can improve her report card each month. Teens competing with themselves to form better driving habits? Doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.
