A Closer Look At The 2017 Camaro ZL1

Details on the 2017 Camaro just barely became available, but it seems the updated version of the iconic racer is already changing the automotive game. The ZL1 is said to be able to challenge even the most advanced sports cars in the world in ANY category.

“The Camaro ZL1 is designed to excel at everything,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president of Global Product Development. “It’s a 2+2 coupe offering incredible performance – acceleration, handling and braking – with the highest levels of technology and perfect chassis damping, making it suitable for everyday driving. It will compare well to any sports coupe, at any price and in any setting.”

If there was one word that described the new Camaro ZL1, it would have to be functionality. The exterior design took more than 100 hours of wind-tunnel and on-track testing for optimal aerodynamics and cooling.

“The design supports the Camaro ZL1’s exceptional performance and does so with compelling style,” said John Mack, Camaro exterior design manager. “From every angle, the elements coalesce to give the car a purposeful, super aggressive attitude.”

Under the hood, the new ZL1 features a new supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine that provides an estimated 640 horsepower. Paired with either a six-speed manual transmission with active rev matching or the all-new 10-speed automatic transmission, the ZL1 might be too much car for a run-of-the-mill driver who knows nothing about cars.

“Driving the Camaro ZL1 is best described as ‘fast with finesse,’” said Reuss. “It is beautifully balanced, with perfect damping and isolation for optimal performance and driver confidence in virtually any situation – from the Pacific Coast Highway to Willow Springs to Pomona.”

Perhaps the most inpressive feature on the new 2017 Camaro ZL1 is the fact that it doesn’t require any optional packages in order to be track ready. That capability comes standard, which again, already has people talking.
